German Genealogy: Only the 2nd FamilySearch Facebook Genealogy Research Group to have done so: 1,000 Likes of the Germany/Prussia Genealogy Research community!

Karl-Michael Sala 2012:  This year, I’ve now given away pro bono about $10,000 worth of my time (at a low rate) for German Genealogy research consultation.  Bragging, not complaining{:>) I think Betseylee Browning has me beat, however. We need some help on these boards.

Fran Jensen FYI: The England Genealogy Research page reached 1165 in June and 1213 in July. So the Germany/Prussia Genealogy Research page was our second GRC page to reach 1000 Fans!!!! Way to go everyone!

What? $200/hr? Yep. This is the 7th time that a huge, well-known investment firm has paid me $200/hr as an expert genealogist to merely discuss the future of the ancestry, genealogy & family history online content industry! Why me?…

 Karl-Michael Sala ·

Today, 8-20-2012, I was interviewed by the 7th investment firm who paid me $200/hr. to merely discuss the ancestry, genealogy & family history online content industry.  Did I set that fee? Nope.  Could I ask for that from my clients? No way. These interviewers/researchers are usually young people (age <30) at various companies who are unclear on the concept of online genealogy research. They are performing what is known as “due diligence.” …

For better (or worse?), my input has been & will continue to be influential in their investing (or not) MILLIONS into various online genealogy content companies!

Why me? They say I come up #1 for all the appropriate keywords & for my having publicly been categorized & classified as being a Past, Present & Future leader in the ancestry, genealogy & family history industry !

First: on Linkedin.com & 2: in most search engines!

More gratitude to dispense upon my webmaster!

Also to www.AlphaSights.com (see image down below) who found me & hooked me up with now 2 of the 7 firms for expert genealogist interview & testimony.

1988 Client writes his professional expert German Genealogy researcher–Karl-Michael Sala–a belated, but great endorsement!

I, Karl-Michael Sala, expert German Genealogy researcher, in the summer of 2012, ran into a 1988 pre-internet client, whose endorsement was indeed given in 2012!

Karl,  I have not joined Linkedin.com, but I am including an endorsement that you are welcome to use at your discretion:
“An interesting coincidence happened at the Mesa Family History Library the other day. I was sitting next to a gentleman who was very graciously helping me utilize a microfilm viewing machine [ScanPro2000]. I hadn’t been to the library in some time, and the microfilm machines I had previously used had been replaced with a newer and more sophisticated model. Over the next couple of hours this gentleman showed me several time saving methods to conduct my research.

Eventually we chatted about our areas of genealogical interest, and I was startled to learn that he too was conducting research in Germany, and more specifically in East Prussia. Imagine my surprise when I found out that he had been the researcher, Karl-Michael Sala, I had hired in 1988 to conduct research on my East Prussian family tree.

Wow, talk about a small world. I had never met Karl in person, as he lived at that time in [Utah]. All of our correspondence had been by mail, as there was no internet and no e-mail to speak of at the time.

So, twenty four years later, I’m still actively pursuing that same family tree that Karl helped me initiate.

Looking back at my records I realized that it was Karl that had identified my 3 times great paternal-grandfather, established the Kreis (County/Region) my paternal family came from, and even the towns and villages where various family members had resided. Karl provided detailed maps of those areas, even though East Prussia no longer exists. That was very exciting, actually identifying the homeland of my family.

Utilizing census and naturalization records he then determined when my family arrived in the United States, despite some significant misspellings of the family name, and utilizing City Directories, pinpointed their exact location in Detroit.

I have subsequently utilized the information that Karl developed to greatly expand my family tree. More important, I mimicked many of the research techniques to which he introduced me, and have had a wonderful time pursuing my genealogy avocation.

Best regards,    Larry Flatau  lsflatau@q.com

Expert old German handwriting analysis, distribution, publication, re-digitizing, translation, transcription,

 Karl-Michael Sala

Diane Mason Graywrote: Not only is Karl-Michael Sala a very nice person–who I’ve only met via the Internet–he’s an awesome genealogist with a specialty in German records. Karl read some German records for me that were copies of microfilm…

of records where the original book had been closed with wet ink causing what was on the left-hand page to appear on the right-hand page along with the writing that was intended for the right-hand page. He was able to discern the correct words and read them for me! It had to have been frustrating, but he did it and provided me with a lovely translation. I highly recommend Karl for any genealogical project!
