Happy Birthday, Otto! As I might have mentioned before, we believe your ancestors want you/us to find them! Whether you believe this or not, matters not. For, if it helps us to do quicker & smarter research for you, then so be it.

On your birthday–even lacking the presence of a decent index–going page-by-page, we indeed found the civil registration birth record of “Marie Emmi Agnes Mueller” except with an umlaut). I’d bet she went by “Emmi.” She was born in the Evangelical religion on 23 September 1877 in Meseritz, Posen, Preussen (Prussia).

Her father was the Pastor Otto Carl Julius Mueller. (with umlaut)

Her mother was Hermine Emilie Crueger. (with umlaut)

It does not appear the system grants us privileges to upload images or make any changes here. After this is granted to us, if possible, we shall post digital images here. Please do whatever it takes to grant us permission to perform this honor for you.

This finding has indeed saved us & you thousands of dollars! We should not need to travel to the two different Meseritz places in today’s Poland! If we do, it would only be to photograph or do any follow up research in any records that might be lacking on microfilm in Salt Lake City, Utah!

We’ll now go on to find any siblings & go back in time!

Let’s take a lesson from the dedicated thousands of volunteers in thousands of Family History Centers across the globe.

Do 10% pro bono work. To this day, Lynell & I still do complimentary work here & there. Pick & choose carefully. Sometimes there will be absolutely NO benefit to the volunteer work. As my wife would say, “And that’s–OK.” But, doing the right thing is sometimes supernatural. We continue to ask for opportunities to serve.

I don’t have time to check, but while your software may be grand, is it re-inventing the wheel? Or, is it improving on the wheel or creating a non-roadborne method of motion? In other words, it must be somehow superior. I doubt you can compete with millions of $ worth of genealogy software. But as they say so well in German: “Ich lass mich gerne ueberraschen!” That is: It would be great if I were proven in error!

SUPERMAN? So, in the meantime, how about helping people actually use various forms of software–genealogy or otherwise? Become someone’s Superman. There is a senior market that only has enough knowledge to be dangerous. Offer to help them navigate the online & offline programs & even some of the research. If you get stuck on the research portion, consult with those who have even more experience, like Lynell & me.

In 1984, Karl-Michael Sala then went on to become an Accredited Genealogist (Germany). To qualify to even take the all-day, pro-active, written exam, one had to have 1,000 hours of experience.

Then, if you pass that, you get a subsequent verbal exam. Oh, gosh, Karl was fervently grilled by Roy Spjut, AG, test administrator for the Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“How do you KNOW that this Johann Schmidt is the right one? There are three of them born in the same time frame & there are NO other records to stipulate what year he was born or the names of his parents!”

The answer is that the genealogist simply cannot be sure. The genealogist must state to the client all the reasons for selecting a particular Johann Schmidt. However, in the absence of a record that states when the target ancestor was born, or precisely whom his parents at birth were, the professional genealogist can only clarify all the reasons for his hypothesis. He must caveat & clarify his supporting reasons. However, the exact one sometimes just simply CANNOT BE PROVEN!

A picture is worth a thousand words! So a video must be worth a million words. Hmm, we’ll work on that!

GermanGenealogist.com has had a stunning first year. My [German] ancestors & my [German] mother came to this country LEGALLY. Help me understand–what part of ILLEGAL immigration is it that people canNOT comprehend? Many people have been turned down for several jobs because they could not speak Spanish. Although in 1990 I had a bonus-award winning track record, I personally was not given an executive leadership position in 2000 with the US Census Bureau because I was not Hispanic in origin. They called it Affirmative Action.
Welfare? Rehab? In spite of my documented disability [at that time], I was turned down in California. [That reminds me of the European church records archival bureaucrat who said: “Herr Sala, it is my job to keep you researchers from getting at my records.” While initially furious, we must] forgive them, for they know not what they do…

What wonderful luck! I soon found that Karl and his highly able Research Director, Lynell, MAOM, University of Phoenix, not only understood my feelings, but were coming from the same point of view–the love of our ancestors. I am so happy to have found competent people to put me in touch with my family members who have passed on, some of whom only recently passed on.
